      The Biphasics



      Our 100% synthetic bone substitutes are composed of Hydroxyapatite (HA) and Beta tricalcium phosphate (ßTCP). BIOMATLANTE is a forerunner in this field and masters and exploits the biphasic concept developed 20 years ago by its researchers. With this wealth of knowledge, BIOMATLANTE offers products whose unique micro and macroporous structure are the worldwide reference for tissue engineering techniques and the improvement of osteogenic properties.

      The main properties of our substitutes are:


      • SYNTHETIC BONE SUBSTITUTE - artificial bone which becomes natural bone


      BCP makes it possible to combine the stability of Hydroxyapatite (an adhesion medium for osteoblasts) and the resorption of ß-TCP (release of ions and degradation by the osteoclasts).

      BCP has an overall porosity of 70% which includes 2/3 macroporosity and 1/3 microporosity


      • ONE FUNCTION - bone resorption/substitution


      The macropores (300 to 600 µm) serve to guide the cells to the core of the implant (osteoconduction) and these cells could resorb the material and form differentiated bone tissue in its place.

      The newly formed bone quickly undergoes bone remodelling. A resorption-apposition turnover occurs like in ordinary bone.

      The bone volume progressively increases and replaces the BCP.

      Because of its rapid restoration, the mechanical properties of BCP can be increased during bone transformation; the BCP implant acquires the properties of spongy or cortical bone according to its implantation site therefore, according to its bone remodelling kinetics.

      It is important to monitor the process of bone resorption/substitution that is required for a real bone substitute.

      BCP enables these kinetics because of its balanced HA and ß-TCP mixture and its micro-macroporous structure.


      • A CONCEPT - Controlled Bioactivity


      The microporosity (pore < 10µm) allows the diffusion of biological fluids.

      The crystal dissolution phenomena (essentially the TCP) cause the release of ions. This saturation of ions leads to a crystalline precipitation consisting of biological apatite crystals identical to bone crystals.

      This precipitation occurs in the presence of the patient's own proteins and now constitutes a new interface that is recognized by the cells and tissues as an autologous surface and no longer as a synthetic surface.

      Injectable, malleable bone substitutes

      BIOMATLANTE also offers a variety of products in its bone substitute range in an injectable, malleable form. These innovating materials are the result of many years of research. BIOMATLANTE is increasing the value of these works by submitting worldwide patents and buying the exclusive exploitation licence

      The performances of these new bone substitutes are particularly well-adapted to mini-invasive surgery.



      Injectable cement



      BIOMATLANTE offers a resorbable, porous, permeable, bioactive calcium phosphate cement.

      The innovation lies in progressive bone remodelling and replacement of the cement associated with the immediate mechanical properties.

      Its excellent rheological properties allow easy use in conventional surgeries with minimum intervention.



      Tissue Engineering



      BIOMATLANTE is looking ahead by positioning itself on this market segment as an indispensable partner The constant improvement of our materials makes it possible to produce 'tailor-made' matrices: specific surface area, diverse HA/TCP ratio, controlled porosity and permeability.

      Composites



      BIOMATLANTE as also completed its range by developing 'composite' implants which consist of a mixture of resorbable bio-polymers and calcium phosphates.

      These products known as composites provide an intrinsic mechanical strength which allows the development of resorbable osteosynthetic systems such as interference screws, fusion cages, etc.

      Because of its concern for its independence and the quality control of each stage of production, BIOMATLANTE has invested in new premises and high-performance industrial equipment.



      Collagen



      Collagen is a supplement to proven bone substitute brands and BIOMATLANTE offers a wide range of collagen products: membranes, sponges, etc.

      Our products, which are highly purified, ensure biological safety. Mastery of the cross-linking process allows the perfection of controlled resorption products.
